2014 Seattle Fall Theater Preview
As the leaves begin to fall, outdoor theatre productions close up shop. It is time to refocus on the start of the 2014-2015 season. There are so many great shows scheduled in the coming months to look forward to. Here are just five to look forward to this fall.
"A Chorus Line"

One of Broadway's longest-running musicals, "A Chorus Line," returns to the 5th Avenue Theatre September 4 through September 28. Originally conceived and choreographed by Michael Bennett and music by Marvin Hamlisc, "A Chorus Line" invites the audience to attend the audition of a new Broadway production. At the audition stands a variety of hopeful and nervous characters each with their own unique (and sometimes uncomfortable) story to share. The musical has won nine Tony Awards and is famous for the high-kicking ending featuring the song "One (Singular sensation)."

The Seattle Shakespeare Company presents Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" at the ACT Theatre for three weeks in September. The "tragicomedy" features two travelers, Vladimir and Estragon, as they wait for the arrival of a person named Godot by a bare tree on the side of the road. The play is open to a variety of interpretations and when it premiered in 1953, it was voted "the most significant English language play of the 20th century." The play will be presented at the ACT Theatre from September 4, 2014 to September 21.
"The Fabulous Lipitones"

While other theatre companies are just getting started, Taproot Theatre is finishing up its season with the fun musical, "The Fabulous Lipitones." Written by John Markus and Mark St. Germain, the story follows the antics of a three-part barbershop quartet seeking their fourth member who auditions for the job over the phone. Taproot describes the show as, "An uproarious comedy of misunderstanding, stereotypes and the path to perfect harmony." The show will run from September 19, 2014 through October 18, 2014.
Disney's "Beauty and the Beast"

A tale as old as time and a huge draw to little princesses everywhere, Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" will be in town for one week this October. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated film, "Beauty and the Beast" features all of its finest music and then some written by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. It is a story about a beautiful girl held against her will in a castle of an ugly beast of a man. If she can see the good within the ugly, she can free him, and his castle staff, of a terrible curse. The show is just as popular with adults as it is with children. It will be presented at the Paramount Theater on October 21 through October 26.

In partnership with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Seattle Repertory Theatre will present "All the Way" by Robert Schenkkan. The Tony Award-winning play tells the story of how Lyndon B. Johnson was swept into the presidency of the United States due to the assignation of President John F. Kennedy. The theatre describes the show as, "Accidental president. Brilliant politician. Flawed man" and follows Johnson's first year as the nation's president amid issues of civil rights and the Vietnam War. The production will run from November 14, 2014 to January 4, 2015.
