1990 Barolo
It's been a very good year. Over the past 12 months or so, I've been fortunate to taste through quite a few 1990 Barolo on several occasions. Those who know me have heard me say more than once that I don't consider 1990 to be one of the truly great vintages for the region, and I've even gone so far as to say that I don't see the wines benefitting much from additional time in the cellar, with a few exceptions.
Last month, I joined some friends for a stellar line-up of wines, 12 in all, some underperforming, but a top-of-the-line glimpse into the character of this vaunted vintage. So, what's the verdict? Well, in all honesty that is always a personal judgment call, but I've heard more than once that I am wrong about 1990 Barolo. So, was I?
