Canadian Costcos Are Testing New Soft-Serve Cones And Reddit Is Pumped

Have you ever wondered, "What could Canada's Costco food courts possibly have that America's doesn't?" Well, $2.79 poutine, featuring french fries doused in gravy and cheese, for one thing. Oh, and $1.99 cappuccinos. And if you weren't jealous yet, we've got some news that may just tip the scale.

According to a Reddit thread, Canada's Costcos are testing not one but two soft serve flavors that have left the website in an uproar of excitement.

The thread in question has already accrued 2,500 upvotes and more than 300 comments, many of which are U.S. customers lamenting the fact that they will likely never get to try the two Canadian treats-in-testing. But while many Americans have been left, as one Redditor reports, crying "in U.S. food court," Canadians Redditors could not be more pumped to try the two flavors. Canadians, get excited, and Americans, try to keep heart — here are the two chocolate-meets-vanilla soft-serve delights being tested in the Great White North that have left Redditors drooling.

Canadian Costcos are trying out two McFlurry-esque soft serve flavors

According to the Reddit thread, the two treats Canadian Costcos are taking for a test drive feature a vanilla ice cream base blended with chunks of either Oreo or Skor, a crunchy chocolate and toffee candy and Canadian favorite. The ice cream flavors cost $4.99 to sample — about twice as much as Costco's usual $2.89 ice cream treats. But Redditors in the forum seem to think the two possibly soon-to-be-permanent menu items are worth the price.

And the treats' calorie count (an Oreo ice cream clocks in at 920 calories per 13.5 ounce serving, and the Skor version contains 980 calories) seem to deter users from wanting to try the snacks. One Redditor wrote, "Oh no. This would be no good for my self control." Another user had a similar sentiment, stating, "As if I needed an almost 1,000 calorie post-shopping snack." According to the Reddit thread, these treats are being tested at the Ottawa, Blair, Nepean, and Gatineau Costco locations.

There's no indication from Costco about if and when the two ice cream flavors will become permanent members of its food court lineup. But considering the fact that Redditors have fallen in love with the desserts at first sight, the odds of the soft-serve treats passing the test run and joining the food court menu ranks seem pretty darn good.

Different countries' Costco food courts offer a world of flavors

While Canadians are getting excited about Costco testing Skor and Oreo-flavored ice creams, the chain's other worldwide food courts offer plenty of unique items, too.

After finishing shopping in Korea, customers can head to the food court and order sweet pumpkin soup, a spicy-sweet eat that features a silky taste. And in Spain, hungry customers can enjoy barbacoa chicken, a dish that usually involves slow-cooking meat with banana and avocado leaves .

Soft serve fans, you'll like this one. In Taiwan, you can munch down on matcha-flavored soft serve mixed with boba. But if gelato is more your style, you'll find lots of it on the UK's Costco food court menus, alongside meat and cheese-filled cottage pie, and jacket potatoes stuffed with baked beans. But if you're an American getting jealous of these tasty-sounding Costco treats, don't forget, if nothing else, that as the chain's chief financial officer once told CNBC, American Costcos' $1.50 hot dog and drink combo deal "is forever."
