When it comes to the Thanksgiving version of sweet potatoes, everyone has their own creative flare — mashed, roasted, or even made into a sweet potato pie recipe. While the orange, starchy goodness is often paired with brown sugar or marshmallows, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy them, too. Food Network A-lister Chef Bobby Flay has a creative spin on sweet potatoes — here's how he cooks them.

In an interview with People, Bobby Flay said that sweet potatoes should be on every holiday table. His go-to sweet potato recipe for his holiday spread? Roasted, with a tangy yet sweet date-lime butter concoction. 

This special topper works with whatever method you prefer to cook your sweet potatoes because you'll want to slather it on when they're hot out of the oven. Mashed, cubed, cut in half and roasted ... it doesn't matter. And the best part is, you can make the date-lime butter a few days in advance and have it waiting in the fridge for when you need it.

So what goes into this special butter, besides the obvious? You'll need room temperature butter, a couple tablespoons of date syrup (molasses works as well), a teaspoon of lime zest, and the fresh juice of one lime, plus a sprinkle of salt and pepper. You can use a hand mixer or stir everything together by hand. The result is a slightly sweet, slightly tangy butter that won't overpower your tastebuds and will accentuates the taste of the potatoes and the rest of your holiday meal.
