10 Crosby Derek Lam RTW Fall 2014: Unstructured Separates Make For A Closet-Worthy Collection
Yesterday during New York Fashion Week, 10 Crosby Derek Lam presented the Fall 2014 collection—a lineup of loose cuts, simplistic styling and a little more color than we've been seeing from the diffusion line. A blend of textures, from fur bucket hats to patent leather boots, showed the collection pulling away from the brand's more minimalistic tendencies in favor of drama for fall. The texture in this collection was well done, and left us wondering how long we'll have to wait to get that navy fur vest in our closet.

For the past few seasons Elizabeth Giardina, design director over at 10 Crosby Derek Lam, has been playing with very minimalist palettes, complete with clean lines, basic shades and unstructured silhouettes, but for this collection she pushed on the those barriers. Without going totally outside the box, she played with a little more color, shape and even mixed in a little patterned lace, giving the whole look a slightly more feminine feel.
The colors in the collection ranged from soft baby pinks to rusty oranges, some even paired together. Style them separately and suddenly you've got ultra-cool pieces that will make even your most stylish friends green with envy. Pastel and bold hues mixed together seemed fresh and unexpected, and were worn with sold whites or blacks to anchor the look together.
While we weren't huge fans of the fur bucket hats, we can acknowledge their usefulness in the middle of a polar vortex—it's one way to stay stylish and warm in sub-freezing temperatures. Long layers were either surprisingly lean or expectedly bulky and took away from the look of some of the longer pieces.
Aside from a few pieces we could do without, the collection was fairly well rounded, giving us a little color, texture and some of the classic 10 Crosby Derek Lam shape that we love. Our favorite thing about the collection was how easy to wear it looked—we love dressing snazzy with minimal effort. Throw on a long skirt, a big sweater, some leather boots and you're golden.
