Why Are Klondike Bars So Good?

It's one of the most popular advertising slogans of all time: "What would you do for a Klondike Bar?" The reason behind its popularity? The ads are true! People love Klondike Bars, and may go to extreme lengths to get them (okay, maybe they just go to the 7-Eleven), but what exactly makes them so good? Here are a few educated guesses:

It's Chocolate-Covered Ice Cream
This is definitely the obvious reason. If you take a square slab of ice cream and cover it in a thin crunchy layer of chocolate, people are going to love it.

It's Well-Proportioned
It's clear that a lot of thought went into the classic Klondike Bar. They're big enough to be a dessert but small enough that you don't feel like a glutton, and you get just the right amount of ice cream and chocolate in every bite.

So Many Varieties
When the Klondike Bar was introduced in 1922, it came in six flavors: vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, maple, and cherry. Over the years, some truly delicious-sounding varieties have hit the shelves, like Krunch Bars (with crisped rice), York Peppermint Pattie bars (with peppermint ice cream), Planters Caramel and Peanut Ice Cream Bars, Caramel Pretzel Bars, and Oreo Bars. You really can't go wrong.

They're Not That Bad for You
An Original Klondike Bar contains 250 calories and 14 grams of fat, which isn't exactly healthy, but definitely better than a standard ice cream treat. And best of all, for those looking to eat lighter, they also sell 100-calorie bars (with just 5 grams of fat) and No Sugar Added bars, with just 5 grams of sugar.

As good as Klondike Bars are, however, they're probably not as delicious as what you'll find at the best ice cream stand in every state.
