Where Are The Healthiest Americans?

Maybe it's all that mountain air, or the pervasiveness of maple in their diets. One thing's for sure: Vermont is the healthiest state in the nation, according to a recent Gallup poll. The poll surveyed more than 177,000 adults to find out where people are eating the healthiest and exercising the most. Vermont residents came in first in both categories, whereas West Virginia and Delaware were the least healthy states.

The Gallup poll asked respondents if they exercised for at least a half hour for three days each week. That might not sound like much, but in Vermont, the number one state for exercise, only 65 percent of polled residents exercise at least that amount. The national average has gone down since last year. Healthy eating was determined by the percentage of polled residents who consumed at least five servings of produce at least four days per week. Again, the top 10 healthiest states hovered somewhere between 60 and 70 percent.
