TripAdvisor's Best Restaurants In The US (And Around The World)

If you're going to require your male guests to wear jackets in your restaurant – even for lunch – and charge $185 for a six-course dinner, you had better deliver some seriously good food. But this French eatery inside a warehouse delivers year after year, and it's the favorite among diners in a ranking released today.

Bouley, in New York's Tribeca district, was named the best restaurant in the U.S. by TripAdvisor members in the annual Travelers' Choice survey, moving up from seventh place in 2014. The travel site determines the rankings by calculating the quantity and quality of member reviews over 12 months.

None of the top 10 U.S. restaurants made TripAdvisor's top 10 best in the world list, which was led by Martin Berasategui in Lasarte, Spain.

Bouley, helmed by superstar chef David Bouley, delivers high-end food in a casual, modern setting. It has a six-course dinner menu that includes roasted fois gras, Kobe beef, and chilled coconut soup. But you can also choose a three-course prix fixe dinner for $125, or a five-course, $55 lunch menu.

Here are the rest of the top-ranked U.S. restaurants:

2. Alinea – Chicago

Last year's No. 1 restaurant , located in Lincoln Park, celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year and has already won a coveted three-Michelin star rating. Its seasonal menu rotates throughout the year, and favorites include Dungeness crab paired with squash blossom, cardamom and saffron; and trout roe with matsutake, apple, and mustard.

3. Le Bernardin – New York

This three-Michelin star Midtown restaurant is led by chef Eric Ripert, and it's been going strong for almost 30 years. If you want to live large here, go with the $205 chef's tasting menu that includes, king fish-caviar, lacquered lobster tail, and green tea custard.

4. Uchi – Austin, Texas

"From the moment you walk in, you are transported to Japan," said one TripAdvisor reviewer, and that's no small compliment when you're in the Lone Star State. Favorite dishes include the sea bass crudo, yokai berry Atlantic salmon, and "sear-it-youreslf" wagyu beef.

5. Halls Chophouse – Charleston, South Carolina

The beef is legendary here, from the filet mignon to the Japanese wagyu. But there's also delectable seafood, including ahi tuna and Maine lobster. If you're in Charleston over the weekend, stop by for the Sunday gospel brunch, with steak and eggs, shrimp and grifts, and more.

6. Victoria & Albert's – Orlando, Florida

We've already covered the fact that Orlando has some surprisingly top-notch restaurants in the shadow of Disney World. Victoria & Albert's is inside Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, but its Victorian setting and haute cuisine are anything but Mickey Mouse.

7. Canlis Restaurant – Seattle

There are lots of trendy, upstart eateries to be found in Seattle, but Canlis has been drawing them in since 1950 inside a mid-century modern home. The seven-course tasting menu includes "Baywater Sweet Oyster" and Wagyu beef. Men, take note: suits and sportcoats are required here and casual attire is forbidden.

8. Chez Panisse – Berkeley, California

Long before dining terms such as "farm-to-table" were being popularized by Portlandia hipsters, Alice Waters was serving her customers dishes with fresh, local, seasonal ingredients. Which is pretty hipster when you think about it. The rotating menu might include grilled lamb, tuna carpaccio, or grilled spot prawns.

9. Daniel – New York

The third Big Apple restaurant to make the top 10, chef Daniel Boulud's French eatery in an old-school favorite with white-glove service, tremendous wine pairings, and jackets required. The hit list here includes smoked sablefish with heirloom tomato gazpacho, and Hawaiian Kona abalone.

10. Pappas Bros. Steakhouse – Houston

There's steep competition to make the best steak in Houston, but Pappas Bros wins top marks here. The steaks are all seasoned with kosher salt, black pepper, and butter, and they include a bone-in filet mignon and Colorado lamb rack for two.

Martín Berasategui's eponymous restaurant, which won No. 1 in the world on TripAdvisor, is a three-Michelin star winner just outside San Sebastian, Spain. Here's the rest of the world top 10:

2. Europea – Montreal, Canada

3. Maison Lameloise – Chagny, France

4. Adam's – Birmingham, England

5. Restaurant Sat Bains – Nottingham, England

6. Geranium – Copenhagen, Denmark

7. PIC – Valence, France

8. NARISAWA – Minato, Japan

9. Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons – Great Milton, England

10. Epicure – Paris, France

Do acclaimed restaurants such as these actually inspire people to travel? TripAdvisor conducted a survey to answer that question, contacting 2,900 members who travel.
