La Taqueria: Decisions Galore, And They're All Great

"Choices of Meat, Beans, Fresh Salsa, Tomatoes, Onions and Cilantro and Hot Sauce if you like," La Taqueria's menu explains.

Sounds agreeable. This should be easy, right? But what to order? Beef, pork, sausage, chicken, beef head, beef tongue, carne asada, chorizo, pollo, cabeza or lengua. The answer? You can't lose. Burrito or taco, carne asada or carnitas, La Taqueria has meant quality and consistency for decades.

You get the beef head, the lengua, the carne asada. Order extras. Cheese and sour cream are 50¢ each. The tortillas are warm, the meat packed in– no skimping. It's soft and melts away. Minced onion and small chopped tomato, cilantro, salsa. A large soda cup filled with fresa, orchata or piña to wash it down. Contentment.

When talking San Fracisco's tacos scene, they're a long-standing barometer: you've either had them, or you haven't. Get eating.
