Snackshot Of The Day: Homeroom Mac And Cheese In Oakland, California

The Daily Meal's editors, contributors, and readers dig into some pretty great restaurants, festivals, and meals. There's not always enough time to give a full review of a restaurant or describe in depth why a place, its food, and the people who prepare it are noteworthy, so Snackshot of the Day does what photographs do best, rely on the image to do most of the talking. Today's Snackshot from Aug. 11, 2012 is of the mac and cheese from Homeroom, co-owners Allison Arevalo and Erin Wade's macaroni and cheese shop in Oakland, Calif., which uses artisanal cheeses from local cheesemakers.

Photo editor Jane Bruce on the mac and cheese: "The mac and cheese from Homeroom is unreal. As most people know, Gilroy garlic is a staple in the Bay Area food scene, famously served on fries at AT&T Park, and it really takes this dish over the top. The cheese is a creamy combination of Gouda and pecorino. Every bite is warm and gooey, just the way perfect mac and cheese should be."
