Sea Pact: Coalition Forms To Promote Sustainable Fishing Practices

Several leading names in the seafood industry have recently joined forces in the name of sustainability. Sea Pact, as the coalition is named, aims to bolster environmentally sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in the interest of shoring up a long-term, financially viable, and economically sustainable seafood industry.

The pact is comprised of six major seafood brands from both Canada and the United States: Albion Fisheries, Fortune Fish & Gourmet, Ipswich Shellfish Group, Santa Monica Seafood, Seacore Seafood, and Seattle Fish Co.

Through financial contributions, the organization plans to support and improve the fish farming practices by which they source their seafood. By pooling their collective resources, both financial and informational, the Sea Pact members will be able to impact change on a much wider scale than if they were acting individually and will be able to use their massive buying power as leverage to enact progressive changes in the farming industry.

Sea Pact also works in connection with nonprofit organizations FishWise and Sustainable Fisheries Partnership for sustainability counsel.
