Cancún-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival: March 15-18
With its alluring clear seas and a coastline that seems never-ending, the Riviera Maya may just be the perfect getaway. And if that wasn’t enough, a huge culinary event is coming to its shores this month — the Cancún—Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival (March 15 to 18). It will celebrate Mexican cuisine and chefs of the Americas with 24 of the most acclaimed chefs from around the world. Ferran Adrià will be making a much buzzed-about appearance at the festival as its guest of honor, alongside other star chefs like Jacques Pépin, Aarón Sanchez, Paulina Abascal from Mexico, Mara Salles from Brazil, and more.
The four-day culinary extravaganza packs tons of events into a short calendar. On the first day, there’s a networking lunch with Ferran Adrià, followed by a presentation about the future of the
elBulli Foundation and a panel on the "Future of Cuisine," in which Adrià will be joined by Jacques Pépin, Normand Laprise, Enrique Olvera, and Mara Salles. The second night will feature a dinner hosted by six elBulli-trained chefs who will prepare an eight-course gastronomic experience with wine pairings from Spain, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, and the United States in the Grand Ballroom of the Live Aqua Hotel. Other events spread throughout a handful of Cancún hotels include wine tasting seminars, celebrity chef cooking demos, and a closing fiesta with a grilling competition between Argentinians and Brazilians, fireworks, tango, and a live DJ will conclude the festival. With Mayan ruins and turquoise waters as a backdrop, there isn’t a better place to rub elbows with culinary superstars and indulge in some of their mouthwatering bites. Take a break from all the eating (though we’re not sure why you’d want to) and explore the ruins, snorkel, lie on the beach, or explore the surprisingly great eats of Cancún.
