Here in the U.S. we tend to regard regional franchises with a sense of pride. So it's notable when one makes inroads in a new area. Here's a look at the latest local eateries to expand their horizons from coast to coast.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop: The Chicago-based chain, Potbelly, announced last week that they plan to open their first New York City location in the Financial District. Potbelly has served toasted sandwiches at shops (now totaling more than 200) since 1977.

The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co.: Florida's own slice of New York, Brooklyn Water Bagel opened their first location in Beverly Hills earlier this month. The West Coast franchise was opened by none other than  the recently retired Larry King. The chain uses a 14-step process to "Brooklynize" the water used to make their bagels.

Naked Pizza: The health-conscious pizza chain, Naked Pizza, announced last week that they will open two locations in New York City. The New Orleans based company currently has 13 locations in the U.S. and one in Dubai.
