Red Bull Creator Dies

Chaleo Yoovidhya, the man who invented Red Bull, died Saturday, leaving behind a legacy of long-haul truckers, chipper college students, and the immortal Red Bull and vodka, possibly our generation's favorite cocktail.

Invented in the 1970s in Thailand, Yoovidhya's energy drink was originally called Krating Daeng, or Red Bull, and was an immediate hit with Thai truck drivers and laborers, the Telegraph reports.

It turns out there's good money to be made in the caffeine and sugar business. When Red Bull went global in the 1980s, it made Yoovidhya one of the richest men in the world. Forbes estimates his assets at several billion dollars.

Yoovidhya's company and his family-owned wine business, Siam Winery, are being run by his eldest son, which raises the question of how Red Bull would pair with viogner.

Rest in peace, Chaleo Yoovidhya, and thanks for getting us through finals week.
