Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 Cup flour
  • 3/4 Cups plus one half cup sugar, divided
  • 3 Tablespoons plus one fourth cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoon baking powder
  • Dash of salt
  • 1/2 Cup milk
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 Cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cup boiling water
  • Whipped cream, for serving (optional)
  • Cherry, for garnish (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
