Valentine’s Day Vegan Brownies With Pomegranate Sauce

You won’t believe these brownies don’t contain dairy

Who wouldn’t want a healthier version of a popular chocolaty treat? Chocolate and fruit are definitely diet approved.


For the Vegan Brownies

  • 2 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Cup water
  • 1 Cup brown sugar
  • 1 Cup white sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 Cups cocoa powder
  • 1/2 Cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 Cup chopped nuts

For the Pomegranate Sauce

  • 2 Cups pomegranate juice
  • 1/4 Cup white sugar
  • 1/2 Cup fresh pomegranate seeds


For the Vegan Brownies

Heat water and 1/2 cup of the flour over low heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches the consistency of a paste.

Remove from heat and let cool completely.

Mix sugar, salt, vanilla, cocoa powder and vegetable oil, and then add the flour-water mixture. Mix well.

Add the remaining 1 1/2 cups of flour, plus the baking powder and nuts/chocolate chips.

Spread mixture into a greased 11x7-inch pan.

Bake at 350ºF for 25 minutes, or until knife inserted into center of pan comes out clean.

For the Pomegranate Sauce

Combine the sugar and the juice in a saucepan and cook over high heat until reduced to approximately 1/2 cup.

Once its cooled. Add pomegranates. Pour over cooled brownies and serve.
