Purple Sunshine Smoothie

Rise and shine to start your day with this refreshing smoothie, featuring raspberries, blueberries, spinach, and grape juice!

February is American Heart Month, an important time for us to reflect on the foods we eat and how that affects the health of our own heart. Purple produce packs natural nutrition power, yet most people fall short on getting enough vibrantly colored, purple and blue fruits and vegetables, which only account for about 3-percent of total fruit and vegetable intake. Purple is a cue that fruits and vegetables have plant nutrients called polyphenols that can help promote health, including heart health.

Grape Juice is a great way to power up on purple, since nearly 20 years’ worth of research suggests that, thanks to the Concord grape, 100% Grape Juice helps support a healthy heart.

Enjoy the Purple Sunshine Smoothie as a great way to start your day in a heart-healthy way! Recipe courtesy of Welch's.

Smoothie Cooking Tip

Don’t throw out your overripe fruit – instead blend into a smoothie or salad dressing, add to muffin batter, bake into a cobbler, or boil down with sugar and a little lemon juice to make jam.
