Fine, artisanal cocktails with a classic bent are the name of the game at Bar Congress, a modern hot spot in downtown Austin. The rye-based Oracle gets a smoky touch with a hint of mezcal and flamed orange. The cocktail is made by the manager of Bar Congress, Jason Stevens.
- 1 1/2 Ounce Sazerac Rye
- 3/4 Ounces Averna Amaro
- 3/4 Ounces Cocchi di Torino Vermouth
- 1 Tablespoon Del Maguey 'Chichicapa' Mezcal
- 1 flamed orange peel, for garnish
- 1 cherry, for garnish
Flame orange peel into empty, chilled coupe glass; keep peel. Combine all liquid ingredients, stir to chill. Julep strain into coupe. Garnish with orange peel and cherry.
