Kentucky Hot Cocoa

Chocolate, spice, and everything nice

Nothing compliments a rich, homemade hot chocolate quite like a bit of spice. Straight from the kitchens of the Kentucky Derby, this easy-to-make cocktail packs quite the punch.

This recipe is courtesy Monica Wolf, Kentucky Derby’s Bourbon Ambassador.

  • 2 Cups whole milk
  • 1/2 a vanilla bean pod, split
  • 1/8 Teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 Teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 Teaspoon cloves
  • 1/8 Teaspoon chipotle Chile powder (optional)
  • 4 Tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 3 Ounces Mexican chocolate (or good quality unsweetened chocolate)
  • 2 Ounces bourbon

In a carafe, add all ingredients.

Pour in two mugs and serve.
