Ingredients

Cocktail

  • 1.5 Ounces Patron Silver Tequila
  • .5 Ounce Jalapeño-Infused Simple Syrup
  • 1.5 Ounces Organic Lime Juice
  • 2 Orange Slices

Jalapeño-Infused Simple Syrup

  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 3 Jalapeño Peppers

Directions

Cocktail

Muddle one of the orange slices with the simple syrup in a mixer glass.  Fill glass with ice and add tequila and lime juice.  Shake well.  Pour into a salt-rimmed margarita glass or strain into a chilled martini glass.  Garnish with second orange slice.

Jalapeño-Infused Simple Syrup

Slice the ends off the Jalapeños and cut in half vertically.  Heat water and sugar in a pot and stir until sugar disolves. Bring to a boil and add sliced jalapeños.  Lower heat and cover.  Let simmer for 20 minutes.  Remove from heat strain jalapeños; press with a spoon until most of the syrup is out of them.  Let cool. (Yields 10oz, or 20 drinks)

Jalapeño Shopping Tip

How hot is that chile pepper? Fresh peppers get hotter as they age; they will achieve a more reddish hue and sometimes develop streaks in the skin.

Jalapeño Cooking Tip

There are 60 varieties of chile peppers, many of which are used in Mexican cooking. Handle them with care. When handling the spicier kinds, gloves are recommended. Always wash your hands with soap and warm water before touching your eyes.
