Chili-Spiced Mashed Sweet Potatoes

You don't need those little marshmallows for Thanksgiving or any other time of year. Instead, deploy fresh orange juice, a little orange zest, and some chili powder to give sweet potatoes zing.

Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes (3 1/2 pounds total)
  • 2 Teaspoons grated orange zest
  • 1/2 Cup orange juice
  • 2 Tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 Teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon salt

Directions

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.

Bake the sweet potatoes until they are soft, about 1 hour, 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

In a small bowl, whisk together the orange zest, orange juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, chili powder, and salt. Scoop the sweet potato flesh into a large bowl. Pour in the orange juice mixture and mash well.
