Bourbon Caramel Coffee

Give your mid-afternoon cup of java a rich, adult twist this winter

Need a little afternoon pick-me-up that has a bit of an adult twist? Add a little bourbon caramel to your coffee, and you’ll be warmed up from the inside out.

This recipe is courtesy of Tiffani Thiessen and Keurig.

For the bourbon caramel sauce:

  • 2/3 Cups sugar
  • 1/3 Cup water
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 1/3 Cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 Teaspoon sea salt
  • 3 Tablespoons bourbon

For the cocktail:

  • 2/3 Cups medium roast coffee, preferably The Original Donut Shop coffee
  • 1/3 Cup whole milk, warm
  • 3 Tablespoons bourbon caramel sauce
  • Fresh whipped cream, for garnish
  • Fresh grated nutmeg, for garnish

For the bourbon caramel sauce:

In a medium, heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high, heat the sugar and water.

Boil, swirling the pan (not stirring) until the mixture turns a golden amber color.

Remove from heat, immediately add the butter and swirl to combine, taking care to keep the pan at a distance as the liquid bubbles up and foams.

When the bubbling has subsided and the butter and caramel are combined, add the cream, vanilla, and bourbon and stir to incorporate.

Set aside to cool.

For the cocktail:

In a mug, pour fresh bourbon caramel sauce at bottom.

Pour in fresh coffee and warm milk. Stir.

Top with fresh whipped cream and grated nutmeg.
