With the boom of Internet inspirations like tumblr, Pinterest, and lover.ly, wanting to customize your wedding and even your registry is understandable. These sites, in addition to the dozens of wedding blogs and magazines, have boosted a growing trend in wedding planning: personalization. 

What sparked it all? An online marketplace called Etsy. Etsy, a web site for all things handmade, vintage, and personalized, has become a fan favorite of many people looking for something with a special touch. The market consists of independent designers and merchants looking to sell items out of their small business. But what was once a general online store with knickknacks and hidden gems has become a mecca for artisan and vintage goods.

At Etsy's "To Have and to Hold" event on April 27, there was much more to take in than just letterpress invitations and custom hangers. The event was a kick-off for their new wedding section and an opportunity for brides to register for unique items, but the affair also served as a showcase of the "best of the best," and when it came to kitchen items, there were many list-worthy items for both brides and guests.

Cutting boards with inspirational quotes, etched mason jars, and customized cookbooks were just a few useful gift ideas with a hint of sentiment for a newlywed couple. While registering for a standing mixer and a knife set is always en vogue, a little thought (and personalization) goes a long way.
