Elderly Widower Eats At Restaurant With Wife's Photo
Onlookers recently caught a bittersweet moment at a local In-N-Out Burger in Fremont, California. An elderly man was spotted dining alone at the burger chain, with a photo of his late wife on the table with him. After a Twitter user, Madina Bashizadah, uploaded a discreet photo of the poignant moment, the photo went viral.
Several diners approached the apparent widower and asked about the photo.
"The older gentleman was sitting down enjoying his meal and I noticed that he had a photo with him," Bashizadah told The Huffington Post. "Automatically, I assumed she wasn't here with us and I started tearing up because it was such a beautiful moment but heartbreaking at the same time."
Bashizadah said that she began talking to the man who told her about his wife who, it transpired, passed away five years ago, and was "happy and excited to talk about her." The two had met before World War II, but were separated after the draft. He searched for her for 10 years, and one day while getting his hair cut, the barber called his daughter in, and it was her. The two got married shortly thereafter, and the marriage lasted for 55 years until she passed away.
He carries the photo everywhere he goes.
