Pit masters are battling for cash and bragging rights at Smokin’ on the Pecos, in Asteria, N.M. at Eddy County Fairgrounds on June 29 – 30. Some 35 teams are competing at the barbecue championship and food festival.

Smokin’ on the Pecos contestants are judged in four separate meat categories, pork, ribs, brisket, and chicken, for $10,000 in total cash prizes.

The Kansas City Barbeque Society is helping to coordinate the event where local amateur barbecue chefs will be able to cook alongside the professionals in the Anything Goes Discos portion of the festival.

Smokin’ in the Pecos boasts a packed schedule of musical performances as well as a shootout competition and bull-riding competitions.
