My {Wo}Manly Bucket List To Support #Movember & #ManlyMoments

Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to one of my favorite months of the year—November. Why do I love this month so much?  Well, Starbucks brings back their famous red cups filled with gingerbread latte, college football season is in full swing, and Houston is actually cool enough for me to wear pants. Then there's all the Thanksgiving food: Cajun fried turkey {the only way turkey should be prepared}, dressing, sweet potato casserole, and pecan pie.

Yes, November is a fine month that's gotten even better with the Movember movement. Not sure what Movember is? It's a mustache growing charity event held during November that raises funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate and testicular cancers.

Similar to pink in October for Breast Cancer Awareness month, the mustache is meant to raise awareness for the diseases. As you probably know, my mother died of ovarian cancer and I've had several aunts and cousins that have had breast cancer, but what I haven't ever mentioned is that my father had prostate cancer nearly 20 years ago. Thanks to his regular check ups, the doctors were able to catch it early and he's been cancer-free ever since.

So, even though I am unable to show support for men's health issues by growing a mustache, I can use my platform to help raise awareness. My wonderful friend, Raymond Walsh, is the genius behind the Website, Man on the Lamb. This quirky Canadian makes me laugh like no other. I can't say that I was surprised when Raymond told me that he was asked by ManMade.com to be the face of Movember. Basically what that means is that Raymond gets to tour around the West Coast of the United States in a tricked out Airstream known as the Made Man Movember Mo'asis, while experiencing the manliest of activities. So far he's flown a fighter jet, fired numerous guns, eaten more meat than should be allowed, played in the dirt with heavy equipment, attended a college football game, and interviewed a Playboy Playmate.

Of course this tour isn't all play and no work. The Made Man Movember Mo'asis and Raymond are traveling countless miles and stopping in various cities where free shaves are given and Movember registration is encouraged. Since I wasn't invited along for the ride, I'm offering up my {Wo}Manly Bucket List to support Movember. Here it goes...

Perform the Haka with the All Blacks Rugby Team in New Zealand

There aren't many things more manly than rugby. I certainly don't want to be at the bottom of a scrum, but I do want to step on the field with New Zealand's All Blacks to perform the haka. This fierce traditional ancestral dance was originally performed as challenge from the Māori people to their enemies. It's now used as a form of intimidation by the All Blacks. It must work, because the All Blacks are the reigning World Cup champions. Now, if I could just get Dan Carter to teach me the haka.

August National, home of the Masters, has held steadfast as a men-only club until last year when they invited two women to become members. What I wouldn't do to join the ranks of Condoleeza Rice as one of the few women members. I can see myself smacking a 9 iron on hole #12 with the azaleas in full bloom. I'll chat with Warren Buffet and let Bill Gates play through because I'm not in any hurry. Now, if I could just come up with the apparent $100k initiation fee.

Ride in the Palio in Siena, Italy

I've made it no secret that I want to spend my 40th birthday {which is in 2014} at the Palio in Siena. Dating back to 1656, this horse race is held twice each year {July 2 and August 16} and involves jockeys racing bareback horses around the Piazza del Campo in front of thousands of people. What would be cooler than watching the event? I say representing a contrada in the race! Now, if I could just learn how to ride bareback and lose all regard for my life.

Take a Turn around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

I've been in the pits prior to the Indy 500. Hell, I've even kissed the fabled bricks of the finish line. What I haven't done is drive 225 mph around the legendary track. I was blessed with a lead foot and started driving in the 5th grade. What that means is that I was born to drive an Indy car. Now, if I could just convince Dario Franchitti to let me take his car for a spin.

Swing a Polo Mallet at the Argentine Open Championship in Palermo

Never mind that I've never actually ridden a horse with anything but a rein in my hand. I don't see how that fact should prevent me from participating in the world's premiere polo tournament. Now, if I could just get Nacho Figueras to invite me join his team.

There you have it, my {Wo}Manly Bucket List. Now, here's how you can help with the Movember movement.

Attention all Bloggers

Since the aim is raising awareness of Movember and men's health issues, any blogger that is interested can get involved by doing the following:

  • Choose five activities you'd like to do and create your own Manly Bucket List – they can be something you commit to do during Movember or simply something you'd like to do before you kick the bucket. {Obviously, chicks are welcome to participate.}
  • Nominate five other bloggers to create their own Manly Bucket List.
  • Include a link to Movember to encourage people to register or donate.
  • Tweet and Share your posts with the hashtags #Movember and#ManlyMoments

Not a Blogger? You can still help. Here's how:

Also, each time you send a tweet, Vine, Instagram, or post to Facebook with your own manly photo or text using the hashtag #ManlyMoments, the folks at Made Man will donate $1 to Movember.

You'll also be entered into a draw for a Trip for Two to Las Vegas to experience your very own Mancation, which includes the Top Gun Experience from Sky Combat Ace.

Here are the 5 bloggers I nominate to create their own Manly Bucket List:

Erin from The World Wonderer

Ted from Traveling Ted

Lauren from Lola's Travels

Pola from Jetting Around

Aaron from Elatlboy
