Today It Will Rain Grilled Cheese Sandwiches In New York
Grilled cheese sandwiches dropping from the sky sounds like a particularly wonderful dream, but today it is a reality in the West Village because a new "float-down eatery" is testing out its delivery system this afternoon.
According to Gothamist, Jafflechutes is an Australian company that delivers grilled cheese sandwiches, called "Jaffles" in Australia, by parachute. Adam Grant, David McDonald, and Huw Parkinson started delivering sandwiches that way in Melbourne in 2013, and now they've taken the operation to New York. Sandwiches are ordered online on the Jafflechutes website and paid for with Paypal, and then customers will be able to catch their orders as they fall from the sky today at Bleeker Playground in the West Village between 1 and 1:30 p.m.
The sandwiches sell for $5 and are available in banana and peanut butter or Cheddar and Vegemite. They'll have the buyer's name written on them, but Jafflechutes also plans on dropping a few free ones for curious passersby.
