Is Fried Soup The Next Big Thing?

We can deep-fry Kool-Aid, Coca-Cola, and bacon-wrapped fried ice cream. Why not fry soup? That's what the owners of The Skipper Restaurant and Chowder House in Cape Cod said when they fried clam chowder.

Chef Caio Barroso first featured his fried creation earlier this month, according to the restaurant's Facebook page. He created the soup by adding thickener, putting it in the refrigerator, forming it into a patty, coating it in flour, egg, and panko breadcrumbs, then frying it.

This idea actually is not new. According to RocketNews, KFC is selling a deep-fried corn potage, which is similar to corn chowder, for a limited time in Japan. RocketNews says this was inspired by a potato bacon fritter recipe that was in a book about KFC founder Colonel Sanders.

We love potato croquettes, and fried clam chowder seems like it would taste similar to a croquette, except with clams. Would you try it?
