Treat Dad To An Austin College Hangout For Awesome Chicken Wings On Father's Day

It's Dad's turn to celebrate, and there is one place in Austin that will surely transport him back to his good ol' college days. Father's Day is right around the corner, and as I gathered ideas for sports bar recommendations in the city, it became clear that one local restaurant serves an unforgettable flavor, unique from the rest.

It all started when Sean Greenberg, Mark Greenberg, and David Paul opened the original Pluckers near the University of Texas campus in 1995. They were still advertising students back then, and the idea emerged from a late night out on Sixth Street, during which they could not find a good place to satisfy their chicken wing cravings as they usually did in Atlanta and New Orleans.

Now one of the prides of Austin, will Pluckers make our next list of best wings? Although the sports bar specializes in chicken wings, Pluckers also serves other macho man favorites such as burgers, nachos, Texas-sized cheesesteak sandwiches, and icy-cold local beers contained in 34-ounce Mother Plucker beer mugs.

One signature dish is the Baker's Gold. These chicken wings are plump, perfectly crunchy on the outside, and juicy on the inside. According to Pluckers lore, the secret sauce used for Baker's Gold was invented by an employee who mixed the restaurant's Cajun, honey mustard, and Buffalo sauces to discover the perfect balance of hot, sweet, and salty.

With seven locations in Austin and 13 more in cities like Baton Rouge, Dallas, and Houston, Pluckers ensures that each restaurant maintains the original spirit, guaranteeing a fun place for university students to hang out among friends and welcoming staff. The landmark flagship location on Rio Grande Street on campus is open daily from 11 a.m. and stays open on weekends until 3 a.m.
