Kermit's Photo From 'Manhattan Melodies' Still Hangs At Sardi's

Just off Broadway, on 44th Street, is the famed Sardi's. Located in the heart of New York City's Theater District, this old guard restaurant features caricatures of Broadway stars, producers, and ambitious amphibians who just want to get their small play some attention.

In the classic Muppets Take Manhattan, Kermit enters the eatery with his own portrait and a dozen (Muppet) rats to start a whisper campaign to hype his play, Manhattan Melodies. Unfortunately he chooses to replace Liza Minnelli's caricature, which leads to him getting kicked out — and to general chaos.

Sardi's has employed a series of staff artists for the portraits. Richard Baratz has been the on-call artist since 1974, but this portrait was donated by Jim Henson and the production team following filming.

Kermit has been redeemed since his 1984 booting. The portrait from the movie has been reinstated at the top of the stairs, separate from the walls of drawings. (Liza is still there, too.)
