Geoffrey Zakarian's Georgie Opens At Montage Beverly Hills

Georgie, the new restaurant housed in the previous Scarpetta home at the Montage Beverly Hills, feels both old and new at the same time.

Chef Geoffrey Zakarian's LA eatery still has the same layout as Scott Conant's old place, but has lightened the space with booths, tables and banquettes in a blue, green and ivory color scheme. The midcentury modern furniture, blue suited waiters and retro martini cart resemble a restaurant scene that might have been left over from one of AMC's Mad Men sets.

Although old in style, the martini cart serves modern frozen martinis in lemon and olive flavors and the cocktail menu includes other interesting libations including a Georgie Gerber, made with Gerber peach baby food, tequila and egg white.

Dishes include American classics with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern twists and are divided into snacks, starters, entrees, pastas and sides.

Standout starters include grilled Spanish octopus with smoked yogurt, steak tartare, and shrimp and grilled avocado. Snacks are smaller portions and include goat cheese stuffed squash blossoms, caviar, smoked tahini spread, oysters, and house made charcuterie.

Pastas include a seafood risotto, spaghetti and veal meatballs, sea urchin tagliolini, truffle agnolotti, and eggplant mezzaluna.

Main dish highlights include a tomahawk steak for two, braised short ribs, roasted Jidori chicken, scallops, halibut and sea bass served with a choice of sides such as roasted cauliflower, corn ragout with cotija cheese, crispy potatoes and foraged mushrooms.

Desserts are classic and delicious including a strawberry and ginger shortcake, bittersweet chocolate soufflé, vanilla panna cotta, peach galette, macaroon ice cream sandwiches and a lemon meringue tart.
