Freshii Closes 18 Restaurants In Target Stores

The healthy option restaurant chain Freshii, has closed 18 of its locations inside Target stores, according to Nation's Restaurant News. The fast-casual chain has 345 locations and is experiencing scheduling and developmental delays that have kept the brand from maintaining pace with their rapid growth plan.

Nation's Restaurant News reports that Freshii founder and CEO Matthew Corrin described the announcement as unsatisfactory in a call with investors. "We missed our internal expectations for the quarter," he said. "Today's announcement is extremely disappointing to me."

The closures are attributed to unforeseen challenges that Corrin described as "correctable."

Freshii plans to change its operating model and offer menu items that require less prep work to increase kitchen productivity. They expect to have between 730 and 760 locations by the end of 2019, which is down from their previous goal of 810 to 840.

The Daily Meal has listed Freshii as one our 10 fast-casual chains to watch out for in 2017.
