The Daily Dish: April 18, 2016
Today's first course?
It seems like a rebrand in the wake of a massive E. Coli outbreak at Chipotle hasn't helped the company... at least when it comes to teens. Findings from Piper Jaffray's 2016 Taking Stock With Teens Survey, which reports on teen spending habits, showed that Starbucks is still popular with teens, while Chipotle is losing the age group's interest. More than 6,000 teens were surveyed, and the findings show a decreased popularity and preference for Chipotle amongst the group. This means that teenagers still love Chipotle, but not as much as they once did. The study showed that teens chose fast-casual over full-service restaurants.
Baskin-Robbins announces it is launching Polar Pizza, which is basically its version of an ice cream/pizza mashup. The chain plans to launch its new item this summer. Best of all, you'll actually be able to get these in the United States. In case you're wondering what it's made of, here you go: It's a soft-baked, nine-inch, round chocolate chip cookie or brownie crust, which is topped with ice cream, candy or cookie pieces, and other toppings. It is precut into slices and comes ready to go in a pizza box.
Do you think you have what it takes to be the next MasterChef? Well if you live in or are a short drive away from the Boston area... listen up! The show plans to hold open casting calls to recruit contestants for its eighth season. This is all going down this Saturday, from 10 in the morning until 6 at night at The Hyatt Regency Boston. Interested in trying out? To participate, applicants must bring a prepared dish to serve the judges. They will be given three minutes to plate their dish, however there will be no kitchen available to cook or warm up said dish. Oh, and you must bring your own dishes and utensils. Good luck!
That's today's Daily Dish, thanks for watching. Stop by tomorrow for another helping.
