Darryl Strawberry's Sports Grill Closes

Looks like another sports star's restaurant is having problems; earlier this year Mickey Mantle's New York restaurant was in trouble, and now, the Queens Courier reports that Darryl Strawberry's Sports Grill in Queens has mysteriously closed over the weekend.

Sources are saying the closing was a shock, with Strawberry's brother, Michael, telling the Courrier, "The closing came out of nowhere. I am very sad. Rest assured it had nothing to do with my brother and me." The restaurant closed down on Sunday, after two years of business.

Employees suspected that the restaurant was losing steam when it stopped ordering food last week. "They gave us checks on Friday but said we couldn't cash them until Tuesday because they said there was no money," one employee said. "People may not be getting paid. They owe some people $600 to $800."

Rumor has it the main manager responsible for the restaurant closing recently left the business, leaving 30 workers jobless. Michael wouldn't confirm any of these rumors, saying, "Some of these things, I don't even know. It was a beautiful experience. I'm not trying to throw anyone under the bus. This is just something that had to be done here at this time."
