Crop Hop At Fearrington Village
Tomorrow evening, August 8, The Barn in Fearrington Village will host the Crop Hop to help raise funds for RAFI (Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA), the Indy Week is reporting. The event is a square dance fundraiser that will support the RAFI's Farm Sustainability program.
This program was originally established during the '80s farm crisis to aid small and mid-size farmers who were in danger of losing their operations "by providing [them with] financial advice and advocating on their behalf to lenders and agencies."
According to RAFI's lead farm advocate Benny Bunting, the program has helped to save roughly 500 farms since it was founded. Funds are now running low, however, "as granting agencies shift priorities or narrow requirements."
Since foundation funding is becoming harder to secure, all proceeds from Crop Hop will support the Farm Sustainability program. Tickets include one Carolina Brewery beer and desserts (including cheesecake) from Lindley Farms Creamery. Beers from Fullsteam and New Belgium will also be available for purchase.
The event starts at 7:30 p.m., with music provided by the Carolina Catbirds and fiddler Shay Garriock. The square dance will be called by Aaron Ratcliffe.
