As we head into the weekend, let’s consider weekend breakfasts, and more specifically, breakfast sandwiches — a favorite among brunchers and those suffering from crippling weekend hangovers.
For this week’s SWAT (Sharing With A Theme), I asked our Culinary Content Network of food bloggers to share their recipes for ridiculous breakfast sandwiches. I’m talking decadence here; I wanted to see the gooiest of eggs, the cheesiest of cheeses, and the meatiest of meats all stacked up high in mouthwatering layers.
Also in this edition of SWAT, I took direct quotes from the bloggers’ articles to let them describe the awesomeness of their sandwiches for themselves. Some quotes describe their inspiration, while others describe the various components on their creations; for some, like Dixie Chik Cooks, a simple, “I’m about to rock your brunch,” was enough.

“This week, I used refrigerated biscuits and my waffle iron to create my biscuit waffle breakfast stack! This fun item features all of my favorite breakfast items stacked on top of a biscuit waffle. This hearty waffle stack is a perfect weekend brunch...or a busy weeknight brinner,” says The Weekend Gourmet.
“For a while now I’ve been dreaming of making a dessert-like blueberry sandwich with cream cheese for breakfast. I experimented with lime zest and coconut to further enhance the flavor of this scrumptious sandwich. This end result is so delectable and filling which is a good thing. Just half a sandwich filled me up. And just FYI… I made it as healthy as I possibly could. Enjoy!” says Honey, What’s Cooking.
“Sundays are made for pancakes and sausage, lazily consumed in the bright late morning sunshine. Not a care in the world. Don’t get me wrong–I love a good classic, and pancakes are certainly that. But it’s necessary to mix things up a bit: to deliver the unexpected, and bask in the delight in my children’s eyes when they encounter an all-new way to experience an old favorite. And thus, sausage pancake sandwiches were born,” says Poet in the Pantry.
“My little guy makes a big fuss over eggs. He would eat broccoli, spinach, and most vegetables but give him eggs? There will be gagging and making faces during the meal… When I showed him this and told him that’s what professional swimmers eat to get strong for their competitions, he almost collapsed LOL,” says Chillies and Lime.
“There are several places that have earned a positive reputation, including one called “Eggslut” in Los Angeles. I finally decided to wait in the 1-hour wait and try their breakfast sandwiches that everyone seems to love. Once I bit into that sausage and soft scrambled egg on brioche, I was content but not to my satisfaction. I knew that I could make my own version with some extra toppings and save myself that hour wait,” says Cherry on My Sundae.
“Sometimes when one is struck with the perfectly stocked fridge and a brilliant idea, dishes of pure magic are created. This is certainly the case with this triple-meat breakfast burger. It consists of a prosciutto-wrapped beef patty topped with bacon and an egg on a sesame seed bun. (I'll give you a couple of minutes to just let that sink in.)” says The Hungry Hutch.
“Fresh, thick cut sourdough. Buttered on one side, toasted, but not too much. Enough for crunch, not enough for crumbs; Aged sharp white English cheddar, thinly sliced. Almost feather-like; Avocado, smashed with salt and crushed red pepper flakes; Bacon, thick cut, maple-smoked; Eggs, over-easy to over-medium, with enough squish to push,” says The Hungary Buddha.
