Bravo Announces 'Top Chef' Spinoff, 'Top Chef Extreme'

Bravo has announced the newest Top Chef spinoff, a show with the working title of Top Chef Extreme that will premiere this summer.

Here's how it'll work, according to a press release: In each episode, two former Top Chef contestants "will face off head-to-head in three rounds of extreme culinary challenges. The winners of each of these dream chef'testant battles will all compete against one another in the season finale in a definitive battle royal of pure gastronomic talent and ambition."

This show will join Top Chef Masters as the only other spinoff of the popular show, which is now approaching the end of its 11^th season (another spinoff, Top Chef: Just Desserts ended its two-season run in 2011). This formula appears to be completely different from pervious spinoffs, which hewed pretty closely to the original formula. This appears to take a cue from Food Network's Chopped, where each week sees a different set of competitors. This new formula sounds exciting, and that finale should be a real doozy.
