Blissful Holiday Sugar Recipe

Homemade flavored sugars are the perfect holiday gift — versatile enough that they can be used for a variety of purposes, but also simply made with love.

The core ingredient here is granulated white sugar, the finer the grain the easier it is to infuse with your natural ingredients. The ratio of sugar and ingredients depends on personal taste, and preparation method. If you mix your ingredients by hand tossing them, the aroma will be lighter, if you use a food processor to blend them, the taste and aroma will be stronger. I will be dabbling with the below ingredients this year.

Deliver Ingredients

One bag white sugar, the finer the grain, the better

One of the below flavorings or flowers

Flavors and spices:

Vanilla bean pod

Whole cloves

Star anise

Cardamom pods

Cinnamon stick

Fennel seeds

Crystallized ginger

Dried orange, lemon, lime or grapefruit peel

Dried edible flowers like Pansies, Roses, Geraniums and Lavender.

For flavored or spiced sugars:

Contrary to this, when I make the vanilla sugar, or any other spiced sugar, I will blitz it several times in the mixer until it is a fine ash colored mixture. The beauty with giving sugar that has danced with your mixer is that you can do it an hour before the party and it will smell and taste amazing.

For floral sugars:

When I make the floral sugar, I will hand-toss the sugar, rather than mixing the sugar and flowers in a food processor, so that the flowers stay somewhat intact. I then pour it into an airtight container that will keep it fresh for ages. Not only does it taste amazing, it looks beautiful.

Holiday Shopping Tip

Holiday Cooking Tip

Balance the amount of dishes prepared ahead and those put together last minute – serve cold dishes made in advance as well as items straight from the stove.
