30-Plus Years And Still Busy All Day And Night
When one thinks of Afterwords Cafe, the eatery located alongside the Dupont Circle landmark Kramerbooks, one tends to think of pie. So when you're in the mood for a fantastic slice, head over to Afterwords around tea-time when the crowd thins and their service goes from acceptable to very attentive.
While their goober pie (a decadent peanut butter, chocolate, and graham cracker concoction) is a great choice, try not to discount the DC hot spot's extensive and ever-changing dinner and lunch menus. The entrées are creative and include regional (read: crab!) and international selections, most of which are sure to please. When picking a brunch spot, though, you might want to think twice before heading to Afterwords as the wait can be as long as two hours — but if you do decide to wait it out, you won't be disappointed. The portions are huge, the rotating selection of seafood omelets are to die for and the full-service bar will gladly serve you a crisply chilled bottle of Mumm's.
