2015 Michelin Guide Kansai Released

Now in its sixth edition, The new Michelin Guide Kansai 2015, covering the western Japanese regions of Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, and Nara, was released in Japanese on Monday, October 20. The 2015 Michelin Guide Kansai includes three new two-starred restaurants — two from Kyoto and one from Osaka — and 16 new one-starred restaurants.

Lida in Kyoto received a second star while Mitasuyasu, also in Kyoto, is a newly added restaurant and joins the list with two stars. Aoki in Osaka was also added to this year's guide with two stars.

A total of 16 restaurants were added to this year's list at a one-star rating, with seven restaurants from Kyoto, four from Osaka, and five restaurants from Kobe.

Additionally, for the second year in a row, the guide also added 18 new restaurants to the list of Bib Gourmand restaurants, or restaurants offering a "value for money" meal, for a total of 84 Bib Gourmand restaurants. Bib Gourmand restaurants offer a menu or single plate item for under 5,000 yen, according to Eater.

Overall, The 2015 Michelin Guide Kansai features 14 three-star restaurants, 54 two-star restaurants and 186 one-star restaurants.
