Why One Couple Got Married In An Aldi Produce Aisle

Imagine you're in your local Aldi, stocking up on groceries for the week. As you grab some milk, you can't help but notice something. Is that man across from you wearing a full-piece tuxedo? Come to think of it, everyone here except you is wearing some sort of suit or dress. Is that a priest over by the produce? Why is the Bridal Chorus playing over the intercom? Is that assistant manager throwing rice? What's going on here?

If you think this sounds like some kind of bizarre fever dream, we'll take a wild guess and say you've never attended a wedding held in an Aldi before. But according to CBS News, the discount chain grocery store actually tried to offer customers more than just savings on everyday foods, but also the wedding of a lifetime. The Aldi Insight Center in Batavia, Illinois, a "model grocery store," offered one lucky couple a chance to have a wedding in its aisles, all paid for by Aldi. Not only would there be a professional photographer and travel accommodations, but there was also a full-fledged wedding reception.

To enter this once-in-a-lifetime chance, Today explained that all you would need to do is write a 500-word essay stating why you and your partner deserve to finalize your love within the halls of Aldi. Of the first 500 entries, one lucky couple got to tie the knot in the Aldi Insight Center, where produce and passion abound.

Michael Hurd and Jessica Bojanowski were the lucky winners

Let wedding bells and checkout scanners ring. As People reports, Michael Hurd and Jessica Bojanowski (now Mrs. Hurd) were the two lucky individuals to be chosen as Aldi's first couple married under its roof. On November 9, Hurd and Bojanowski exchanged vows at the Aldi Insight Center in Illinois, with the marriage officiated by a grocery store employee. Despite the admittedly odd choice of venue, both bride and groom claim have fond memories of Aldi, considering it to be a very special place for them.

""Getting married at Aldi feels like a dream come true," the couple told People. "It has always been a key part of our relationship. We work opposite schedules, so weekends are the only time we get to really see each other. We've always cherished our Sunday morning Aldi shopping dates. It's something we look forward to doing together each week." In short, Aldi was the perfect place for these two lovebirds to get hitched. The reception was held at the wine and beer section, where appetizers of chicken sliders, coconut shrimp, and cocktails were served alongside a massive three-tiered wedding cake.

Getting married in an Aldi may sound strange at first, but you have to remember that 1,500 people get married at Disney World each year (via Magical Kingdoms' estimations), so is an Aldi store really that strange to profess your undying love?
