JeanMarie Brownson author of Dinner at Home: 140 Recipes to Enjoy with Family and Friends says, “Homemade cranberry sauce just might be the easiest Thanksgiving side to make and will let you upgrade your holiday dinner with ease for little expense.” To make cranberry sauce, finely chop fresh cranberries with pieces of chopped oranges and sugar — that’s the way Brownson’s mom made it for the holidays. You could also let the fresh cranberries simmer with sugar and orange rind for about 10 minutes. Making cranberry sauce is simple and the result goes perfectly with turkey. The best part is that you can make your cranberry sauce up to a week in advance.

For Thanksgiving you can go traditional or you can add your own spin to a few recipes. If you love corn bread, but want to try something new, you can make a creamy zucchini skillet corn bread. You can add bacon to your roasted Brussel sprouts recipe or make two meals out of your creamed spinach side dish, serving it on its own but also using it as filling for mushroom caps for an appetizer.Homemade cranberry sauce just might be the easiest Thanksgiving side to make and will let you upgrade your holiday dinner with ease. — JeanMarie Brownson
