Winter often seems like a never-ending season filled with gray skies, long nights, and bone-chilling temperatures. Embraced by fans of this classic Mexican cocktail every Feb. 22, this unofficial holiday celebrates everything that is the margarita.

A classic margarita is composed of three ingredients: lime juice, tequila, and Cointreau or some other orange-flavored liqueur. (Many bartenders add simple syrup or, increasingly these days, agave syrup.) With coarse salt and a lime wedge on the rim of your glass, you have a cocktail for the ages. These refreshing, bright basic elements help to make margaritas one of the most customizable and diverse cocktails out there. With variations that range from spicy to fruity to floral to bubbly and everything in between, there’s a margarita out there for every drinker.

In honor of National Margarita Day, we’ve rounded up 15 of our favorite margarita recipes. Want to sip on Champagne? There’s a margarita for you! Want something you can whip up in five minutes? We have plenty of quick and easy (yet satisfying!) options. Want something that is somehow perfect for the beach and by the fire? We’ve got a recipe for that.
