Dying Woman Gets Last Wish For A Milkshake From Her Hometown

After a long battle with pancreatic cancer — her third cancer in her 50 years — Emily Pomeranz had only one last request: a mocha milkshake from her favorite hometown restaurant.

Tommy's is a popular eatery in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. This made fulfilling Pomeranz's wish difficult, for her hospice was 375 miles away in Arlington, Virginia. Though it might seem impossible for a milkshake to travel that distance, longtime friend Sam Klein reached out to owner Tommy Fello for guidance, reported The Associated Press.

And just like that, with the help of dry ice, one carefully packed mocha milkshake was shipped overnight to a smiling Pomeranz.

"This was a huge surprise," Klein said in a Facebook post July 31. "She was thrilled. She shared it with her family. She talked about it for days and days."

The two friends had grown up in Cleveland Heights together and then both relocated to the Washington, D.C., area. And though they'd moved far from their favorite suburban restaurant, it still held a special place in their hearts — now more than ever.

Pomeranz, 50, died four days after she received the milkshake.

"She leaves behind a treasure trove of memories; a legacy of laughter, joy and caring; grieving family and friends," Klein said on Facebook. "But she was able to fulfill her wish of one last Tommy's milkshake." Click here to read our most inspiring food stories of 2017.
