New CVS Vending Machines Are Total Life Savers

Imagine: You're on your way to work and quickly realize you've made a terrible mistake. Your shoes are giving you blisters; you're now hobbling down the street, cursing your every decision. Without a blister Band-Aid in sight, you think, There's no way I'm going to make it.

Or maybe you left the house without a tampon.

Or you have a headache.

Or need a tissue.

Or maybe you just forgot to bring a healthy snack.

Any and all of these everyday dilemmas could be solved immediately if a drug store magically appeared and sold you the thing you needed to alleviate your issue. In the future, this might actually be a reality. Enter: the most convenient vending machine ever.

Vending machines took a recent turn for the health-conscious when CVS ditched the idea of dispensing chips and soda and swapped them for Band-Aids, toothpaste, and other drug store necessities. At 25 pilot locations in New York and New England, CVS is launching vending machines that sell any and all of your health and wellness needs.

The machines will be stocked with over 70 "convenient, on-the-go necessities including over-the-counter health products, 'better-for-you' snacks and popular personal care products," according to the company's press release. These items include first aid essentials, nutritious snacks, shaving cream, deodorant, makeup, vitamins, phone chargers, and more items you always need but can never seem to find.

"We are always looking for new ways to combine convenience and innovation to help better serve our customers," said Judy Sansone, senior vice president of front store business and chief merchant for CVS Pharmacy. "Our new CVS Pharmacy vending machine program allows us to extend that convenience beyond our brick-and-mortar locations."

The machines will feature a large, 22-inch touchscreen that vends information to customers as well as convenience — the screens will provide product details, payment options, and promotional codes. Essentially, consumers will have all the assistance they might need from the store (literally) at their fingertips.

The pilot locations are exclusively in the Northeast, but a representative of CVS told The Daily Meal that "CVS Pharmacy is considering adding more than 50 locations throughout the country, including college campuses, corporate offices, hotels, and other transportation hubs."

We'll definitely be on the lookout for these machines near our office in New York City — there's almost never a time we don't think of something we need passing by the pharmacy chain. Somehow, we always end up caught needing an item we shouldn't ever leave home without.
