NYC's 22nd Annual Taste of Tribeca 2016: Recap
The 22nd annual Taste of Tribeca was a huge success judging by the crowds of families, food-lovers, and volunteers who helped make this outdoor food festival the most impressive one yet. With dishes from over 60 restaurants offered, decisions were extremely tough to make.
Festival-goers had six opportunities to taste various items which ranged from sweets such as Tribeca Treat's cupcakes, chocolate whoopie pies with marshmallow filling, and salted peanut and caramel popcorn, and Ninja New York's brightly colored, sprinkled berry tarts; to savory plates that included Tablo Tapas y Restorante's seafood paella and Pepolino Ristorante's veal and ricotta meat balls with tomato and basil coulies.
My choices (though I wish I could have literally tried everything!) were:
The dish: Simmered pork belly with sesame soy sauce and rice (Washu Gyu-Don). Anything with pork belly I will eat.
The Dish: Chef's selection. While I can't say exactly what was featured, it showcased tender pieces of excellently seasoned grilled octopus.
The Dish: Orecchiette Alla Norcina. Super creamy, absolutely delicious, and filling.
The Dish: Lamb barbacoa tacos. These tacos had tender, shredded lamb topped with a ramp remoulade, salsa, and cojita cheese.
Nobu Next Door
The Dish: Black Cod Butter Lettuce. This Nobu signature bite was refreshing and light. The cod was buttery, flaky, and incorporated the perfect balance between sweet and savory flavors.
The Dish: Risotto with porcini mushroom and spring peas, topped with Parmigiano-Reggiano. I have always love risotto. This one was filled with mushroom chunks and plenty of umami.
The ultimate dessert highlight was hands down Duane Park Patisserie's offering: Madeline Lanciani's exclusive Taste of Tribeca treat, the warm molten chocolate cake with bittersweet chocolate sauce. This dense and decadent cake, fresh out of the oven and doused with an intense chocolate sauce, was heaven — in cake form.
This awesome event was not only a fantastic way to try out all the restaurants I've been wanting to (without going broke), all under one “roof,” but also a great way to give back to the community, as all of the proceeds go to benefit arts and enrichment programs at local public schools, PS 150 and PS 234.
