Texas Roadhouse Boasts The Largest Margarita Menu Of US Chains

Believe it or not, the first Texas Roadhouse didn't actually open in Texas. The chain started 30 years ago when founder Kent Taylor opened the first storefront in Clarksville, Indiana. Taylor died in 2022, but he was known for his generosity — he even gave up his salary during the pandemic as the restaurant faced financial challenges. Today, the chain boasts more than 600 locations, with about two dozen in countries outside of the United States.

Texas Roadhouse has made a name for itself through its Texas-style dishes, which include menu items such as Texas Cowboy Dip, Chili Soup, and plenty of steaks. The chain considers itself "legendary," and uses the term frequently on its menu — including to describe its margarita list. However, the Texas-style restaurant might be onto something with its terminology, because it actually boasts the largest margarita list of any chain restaurant in the United States — legendary, indeed.

Texas Roadhouse offers plenty of margarita options

Though Texas Roadhouse might be famous for its large portions and flavorful steaks, customers certainly don't sleep on its massive margarita menu. Whether enjoyed frozen or on the rocks, the restaurant's self-proclaimed "legendary margaritas" offer an option for every tequila fan. The margaritas come in five main flavors: Original, strawberry, raspberry, watermelon, and sangria (yes, sangria!). Plus, visitors can opt for either a 10-ounce version or upgrade to an 18-ounce version, though the restaurant notes that its cocktails should be enjoyed "responsibly." The margaritas range from 245 calories to 395 calories, depending on the size and flavor.

Back in May 2022, the restaurant chain took its margaritas to a new level when it launched its Margarita Mixer, which allows customers to drink their favorite Texas Roadhouse margarita at home by just adding their own tequila. The chain calls it a "one-of-a-kind flavor profile" on its website, and it's comprised of Persian lime juice and organic blue agave syrup.

Other U.S. chains capitalize on the margarita, too

Texas Roadhouse might have the biggest menu, but it is not the only U.S. restaurant chain to take advantage of the popular drink. Some might remember the Applebee's $1 margarita promotions, of which it has run several in the past, appropriately labeling the drink a "Dollarita."

Beyond that, Chili's runs a "Margarita of the Month" promotion, which has its restaurants offering a new margarita flavor every month. Customers can come back each month of the year to try the chain's newest menu addition. In January 2023, the chain started the year with its "Trifecta 'Rita," which combines three different premium tequilas. In February, visitors are encouraged to try the "Romance 'Rita," which contains a blend of Grand Marnier and Lunazul Blanco Tequila, shaken "with Monin Blackberry, Chili's fresh sour and a little love."

February 22 is National Margarita Day, so it's safe to say other chain restaurants will likely be running various specials to celebrate the holiday later this month.
