What Really Went Down With The Food At Fyre Festival

The infamous Fyre Festival, the brain-child of rapper Ja Rule and entrepreneur Billy McFarland, went viral this weekend after the company running the festival lost control of the logistical situation. Attendees who dished out thousands of dollars for a "VIP experience" on a private island in the Bahamas instead found themselves in ramshackle tents, and the event was cancelled before any performers took the stage. But it turns out that, even aside from a $100 million lawsuit against the co-founders, there's another scandal to be dealt with: the truth behind the sad festival sandwich.

Festivalgoers had been promised gourmet meals, but one attendee posted a picture on Twitter and said that they were fed slices of bread, cheese, and a salad with no dressing. According to TMZ, however, the sandwich was nothing but "fake news" — the meager sandwich was in fact a staff meal, intended for the help at the ill-fated festival, whereas sources told the site that well-heeled attendees "actually got awesome food."


Festival guests were reportedly served chicken, pasta, burgers, fries, and a salad (hopefully with dressing) for dinner, and doughnuts, waffles, and coffee for breakfast.

Starr Events, the catering company of chef Stephen Starr, was supposed to cater the festival, but responded to the sandwich picture by saying they had backed out of the event.
