Churchill Downs Unveils Official Menu For The 142nd Kentucky Derby

Churchill Downs Racetrack has announced the official menu of the 142nd Kentucky Derby, presented by Yum! Brands, giving us a first look at what the more than 170,000 fabulously clad guests will be dining on. Hold on to your hats!

The menu showcases the essence of southern food, with modern twists on well-known Derby traditions and infused with international garnishes, according to a release. Ingredients were hand-picked from local farmers and international partners, traveling over 27,000 miles in total.

"Local sourcing is as much of a tradition at the Kentucky Derby as the mint julep," says chef David Danielson, executive chef for Churchill Downs Racetrack since 2013. "Our first objective when crafting the menu is to spotlight the taste of the south by reinterpreting the bounty of local farms and producers and then instilling touches of international delicacies."

The Derby, North America's oldest continuously held major sporting event, will take place on Saturday, May 7.

Churchill Downs Racetrack is enlisting the help of students from the Pennsylvania Technical College to help prepare the ingredient-driven menu.
