How about some dairy with your dairy? One West Coast ice cream shop is serving some strange scoops like blue cheese & pear, black olive brittle and goat cheese, Baked Alaska, and avocado &strawberry sorbet. And yes, these are all real ice cream flavors. 

Surprisingly, the savory ingredients haven't turned off customers. In fact, owners of the Salt & Straw frequently say that lines frequently are out the door at their multiple locations in Los Angeles, Portland, and San Francisco.

Since the shop opened up six years ago in Portland, it's developed a cult following not only for the quirky flavors, but also for the quality of the ice cream itself. Their secret? They offer 17 percent butterfat in their ice cream, as opposed to the average 10 percent, which increases creaminess.

Co-owners and cousins Kim and Tyler Malek told Delish that their ice cream shop was a year in the making before it opened up and that their "unconventional blends" of flavors come from their stint in culinary school.
